How do I check that a land surveyor is licensed in Virginia?
Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (APELSCIDLA Board) publishes Land Surveyor regulant list (0403) and Business Entity (0407) and Professional LLC (0413) regulant lists. We read them on October 7, 2026; every firm below comes from them. Ask for the surveyor's own license number too and check it with the board.
How many surveying firms are there in Virginia?
The Virginia board lists we read show 200 registered surveying firm offices based in Virginia. The board's list of people shows 1,220 active land surveyor licenses, including surveyors based in other states. Another 93 firms on the Virginia list are based in other states.
What must a boundary survey include in Virginia?
Virginia requires monuments of permanent material at all corners and changes of direction, and the plat must name the adjoining owners of record and say whether a current title report was given to the surveyor. The surveyor's seal, signature and date certify that the survey meets the minimum standards (18VAC10-20-370).
